Drama therapy is the intentional use of dramatic and/or theatrical processes to achieve personal change. It is an embodied practice that is active and experiential. Drama therapy uses play, improvisation, enactments, and performance to help people tell their stories and express their feelings.
As the client rehearses desired behaviors in a safe environment, it becomes possible to expand and find flexibility among the roles they play in life. Individuals may find themselves beginning to interact differently with others, and eventually they may come to redefine how they see themselves.
Drama therapy can be experienced one-on-one or in a group setting.
I am working towards certification as a Registered Drama Therapist by the North American Drama Therapy Association. I am credentialed as a Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist and am licensed by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals board to assist in the treatment of substance use disorders; however, I am not a licensed psychotherapist and I am not qualified to diagnose or treat mental disorders.
