Hello, and welcome to my blog! I’d like to tell you a bit about its purpose, but just like an improv scene, I don’t know exactly where it’s going to go. Perhaps it will be the resource for students I wished I’d had when I first began studying improvisation. A few of my students have encouraged me to share my thoughts with a wider audience, and being the wonk that I am, I’ll jump on any excuse to discuss improv.
I also hope to use this space to draw some parallels between the craft of improvisation and real life. As any dedicated improviser knows, improv changes you – usually for the better. Improv is as much a philosophy as it is an art form. As any improviser who has ever tried it knows, explaining what we do to family members and friends can be difficult. I expect that this blog will be, in part, an attempt to clarify why I do what I do, and to reflect on the lessons that can be learned from the art form known as improvisation.
